Why isn’t anything happening? Why aren’t you DOING anything?
It’s a question we have heard often. When we think of government, we think of making laws, or striking them down. These days we think of putting the corporations back in their respective boxes, or shutting them down entirely. Currently, The Michigan Assembly isn’t doing any of these things. Why is that?
The reason is all about what phase we are in right now. The Federation of States have called all 50 states to assemble and that is what we are doing. Back before the Civil War, the assemblies would go in and out of session. Government was not in session all the time! When called to assemble, the states would come together rather quickly, even with having to spread the word through messengers on horses and word of mouth. Now we have been called to assemble again. This hasn’t been done in so long that nobody knows how to do it anymore. We have to learn everything over again. Nonetheless, we are in the Assembling Phase. We are not yet in the Governing Phase.
Think of it like a baseball team. The team goes through Spring Training. During this time they practice practice practice. They get train to get stronger and better. If there are rule changes, they learn them. They scrimmage. It all leads up to opening day when they have their first real game! During the game season they still practice to improve their game, but they still have games. At the end of the season, they all go home and then do it all again the following Spring.
The Assembling Phase is like Spring Training, except people have to learn how the game is played…since nobody has played it for so long, the rules were lost or forgotten. We’ve got to write them down again, which takes time. But then we practice practice practice. One way is by putting forward proposals…they may not seem like a big thing right now (one done in 2025 was to approve the design and purchase of business cards used for outreach), but each one is an opportunity to practice the process…because in the future, proposals is how the BIG things will get done…like removing flouride from our drinking water, or repairing bridges around the state.
And let’s think about our courts. In order to open our common law courts, we need to know how to operate one! We need well-versed Justices, educated jurors, trained bondsmen, court recorders and staff, rock-solid evidence handling, along with all the documentation for each state of a trial. We write down all the rules for how to hold court. Then we scrimmage by doing mock trials. Finally, when we are confident we know how to do it, only then can we open our courts.
The Assembling Phase vs Governing Phase
Below is a chart that will help you to comprehend the difference between what The Michigan Assembly is doing now, compare to what it will be doing later. There is another phase in between these two, which won’t be covered here. The idea for now is to show you where we are compared to where we will end up…

How do we get from here to there?
In order to get from the Assembling Phase over to the Governing Phase, the biggest thing we need is people! This is a big job that can be done by a small number of people…but it will take a long, long time. In order to get from here to there faster, we need people like you to step up and lend a hand.
Are you ready? Let’s go!
